I’d imagine that most mothers revel in memories of the glory days—back when they were the authoritarian rulers of their daughter’s wardrobe and could dress her up like a damn cupcake every single day with no questions or complaints. Ahh what bliss. According to my mother, those were truly the days. You know, before all the white eyeliner and butterfly clips and spaghetti straps started happening and our home was turned into a war zone that involved my mother sending me back upstairs to change every morning and me promising that today was really, truly the day I was running away forever.
Of course, for my mom, the glory days of dressing me as a small child meant PINK. All of it. In fact, I don’t believe I knew that clothing even came in colors other than pink until I was in my teens. It’s likely the fact that I was the only girl in the family that compelled my mother to seize this sartorial opportunity as her ONE SHOT TO DO ALL OF THE GIRLY THINGS. And so she did. All of them.
While my wardrobe is no longer exclusively comprised of pink, lace, and florals, I still blame her for my deep-seated attraction to classic, feminine silhouettes and my pathological affinity for the matchy-matchy. I can’t escape it. I was brain-washed too early for too long, and the worst part is that I’m not even mad about it. Is it sartorial Stockholm syndrome? Probably. But alas, the classic feminine vibes get me every time.
As echoed in today’s 30 Dresses post on Mother’s Day style, I’m all about giving the woman what she wants on her special day and thanks to the down-right DELICIOUS number of classic spring dresses I’ve been hoarding at Shopbop lately, this task is an easy one. Below I’ve rounded up my favorite feminine spring dresses, perfect for Mother’s Day and beyond.
