SWEATER: Perfect Moment (love THIS affordable alternative)  |  LAYERING TURTLENECK: Lands End  |  PANTS: James Perse  |  BOOTS: Hunter (almost sold out, similar HERE)  |  HAT: Acne Studios (similar HERE)  |  GLOVES: Fownes Brothers

Apologies for the delay in getting the final installment of the Winter Memo published!  We have lots of exciting things happening right now with Trove, so 2018 is already off to a particularly hectic start which meant less time last week to devote here.  Lots more news on that front to come…

But today I’m thrilled to conclude the Winter Memo series with the coziest, most fundamental category—BASE LAYERS.  While today’s photos are from our time over New Year’s in Lake Tahoe, I’m not just talking about the warm base layers you wear skiing.  These base layers save me all winter long on and off the slopes—when I’m headed to the office on a particularly frigid day or even running to the grocery store on an icy Sunday morning.  If you live in northern climates, you know that no winter wardrobe is complete without these life-savers, so I’ve rounded up my favorites below!

Although this roomy turtleneck star sweater is 100% merino wool, it wouldn’t have been nearly as much fun to wear on the slopes without this insulating turtleneck underneath.  The layered turtlenecks packed a toasty one-two punch beneath my ski jacket on the slopes and kept me comfortable all day long out on the snow.  Back home in NYC, I constantly wear it under sweaters, shirts, dresses—you name it—all winter long.

On the bottom, I’m wearing my favorite fleece-lined leggings, which are also mainstay winter base layers for me on and off the slopes.  There’s nothing I love more than a lazy Sunday with these suckers and an oversized sweater.  Since I wear them so much, they’re worth the higher price tag, but I also just spotted these $12 fleece-lined leggings on Amazon which have pretty great reviews if you’re looking for a budget-friendly option!

Check out all of my favorite warm base layers below if you’re looking to stock up for the remainder of the season!
