Happy Friday!  It has been a wild couple weeks coming back from our travels and jumping right into one of the busiest and most amazing fashion weeks to date.  I apologize for how quiet things have been here on the blog, but rest-assured, I have tons of fall fashion coming your way!  This aqua floral Alessandra Rich dress was definitely one of my favorite fashion week looks, and speaks to three major trends that I’ll be hitting hard throughout the season—victorian silhouettes, fall florals and slide pumps—a combination that strikes my favorite classic-meets-modern note!

Item numero uno on my fall shopping list is always DENIM, the trusty year-round closet staple that never fails.  If, like me, you’re looking to refresh your collection for fall and winter, I thought I’d share three favorite brands that have recently made their first foray into denim: Veronica BeardRebecca Taylor and Everlane!

The pair I’m sporting today is a favorite from Veronica Beard’s new denim collection, featuring a très trendy cropped flare leg with really cool red and navy grosgrain tuxedo striping down the sides.  The palette is perfect for transitioning to fall (spoiler alert: I’m going to be wearing red all season like it’s my J-O-B) and the fit is SUPREME.  I’m currently also eyeing these perfect high-waisted beauties which have a really cute frayed hem for when loafers and sandals are still in play, while also having the perfect skinny leg for layering under over-the-knee boots as temperatures start to drop.

Second on my list today is Rebecca Taylor, and you can see me sporting some really cool patchwork denim by Rebecca Taylor in this instagram.  I’m telling you, the fit and quality can not be beat.  I just ordered this pair in the same fit but a classic light wash and can’t WAIT to wear them all fall.

Last but not least is Everlane, which is the only one of the three I actually haven’t tried yet, but since everything Everlane does is absolute FIRE, I have no doubt their denim will follow suit.  They’re also at a super affordable price point, and I can’t wait to get my paws on this pair.

This striped turtleneck and midi skirt combo was one of my favorite looks from fashion week, mostly because it was v v comfortable in the unusually crisp early September air, but also because I’ve seldom met a stripe party I didn’t love.  Well, after I had a giant deli sandwich for lunch, I guess I didn’t love love walking into an army of fashion week streetstyle photographers in horizontal stripes, but I quickly remembered how delicious the sandwich was and felt #noregrets.  Stripe on.

Now that Fall is officially here (we’re past the mark of acceptable denial) we have no option but to embrace all of the great things about the impending cooler temps and crisp air.  *Written while sipping a venti pumpkin spice latte & booking an upstate apple-picking weekend retreat… *  [insert gag reflex here]

Jewel-tones are always a fall favorite for me, and this GREY by Jason Wu gem (see what I did there?) is one of my favorite recent finds. With classic lines and modern silver hardware, the dress is very Jackie O. meets Bond girl and I’m not mad about it.  I’m also not mad about how darn comfy it is.  Can’t wait to layer a crisp white turtleneck underneath this frock and throw on some black tights, PSL in hand.

Fun fact:  I’ve actually never even tried a Pumpkin Spice Latte.

I’m also loving this checked trench from Zara, which is super lightweight and therefore perfect for the bipolar temperatures that coincide with seasonal transitions.  Lemme just say, checks should be high on your checklist for fall (did it again), so go ahead and jump on the bandwagon, ’cause the gang’s all here.  Classic trench coats are also having a huge moment (check out the NYFW/LFW streetstyle highlights for proof), so this jacket’s got the whole two birds, one stone thing going for it.

My Go-To Look For Fall

HAPPY FIRST DAY OF FALL Y’ALL!  What better way to usher in the new season than by sporting the coziest, most versatile cashmere sweater in all the land that’s somehow under $200.  Yes.  100% cashmere.  Under $200.  And I never joke about cashmere.

While I’m all about the bright colors and bold prints trending this season, there’s nothing I love more than a classic, trusty #allblackeverything look.  I spotted this AQUA cashmere cutout sweater and Rebecca Taylor leather flare skirt at Bloomingdales recently and knew immediately that they would be pieces I LIVE in all fall and winter long.

I also found this leopard-print clutch at Bloomingdales, and it’s worth noting that all three items I’m wearing today (the sweater, skirt and clutch!) are from their 100% Exclusives collection which (spoiler alert) is INSANELY good.  As the name suggests, it’s stuff that is only sold at Bloomingdales (how stunning is this blouse?!), so it’s worth an extra look at items that you won’t come across at any other retailer.

But back to the aforementioned sweater and skirt splendor:  I had a similar cutout sweater last winter which I ended up wearing all day, all night, EVERYWHERE.  Since it’s a cozy knit and loose fitting, it doesn’t look out of place during the day.  However, since it’s black and has cool cutout detailing at the neckline, it also looks amazing at night when you’re out to dinner or drinks.  I ended up wearing last year’s similar sweater SO much that by March it was a stretched-out pilled mess, in desperate need for replacement.  Big ups to Bloomingdale’s Aqua brand for coming through in the clutch with a super high quality, budget-friendly version this year.

As for this skirt, well, do I even need to verbalize all of the ways I’m going to live in this sucker all season?  Since it’s a slightly longer length, you can easily wear it to many workplaces (though, perhaps skip leather bottoms if you work in super formal, buttoned-up environments).  However, since it’s leather (faux) and has a festive flounce hem, it transitions to evening without skipping a beat.  I should also mention that leather bottoms are HUGE this season, so start stocking up now.

This Handbag Line Is Completely Changing The Work Bag Game

BAG: c/o Senreve  |  OFF-SHOULDER SWEATER: Theory  |  PANTS: Pallas (old, very similar HERE and HERE)  |  SANDALS: Alexandre Birman

Today, I have breaking news in the world of handbags, more specifically WORK BAGS, and you’re going to want to hear me out on this one.

Here’s the thing:  I’m all about a classic tote, but sometimes I just don’t want my work bag to scream “STANDARD-ISSUE WORK TOTE” especially when I’m going from work to play.  You feel me?

However, I’ve always felt that finding a bag that’s both functional for work AND stylish outside the office is next to impossible.  You have to choose: either forego the sleek handbags you love and lug around a giant tote that properly houses your laptop and other necessities, OR abandon practicality in the name of personal style (and quality leather).  Talk about a Sophie’s Choice situation, amiright?

Deep breath.

My friends, that was then, and this is now.  Today is a new day.  Cue Senreve, a brand that my friend Wendy started with a couple other like-minded working girls that were fed up with the existing (lack of) options.  Senreve is a luxury handbag line that finally solves this working girl conundrum with a collection of work-to-play bags that marry luxury and utility without compromising on either (foreal).  These things are like real-life transformers made of genuine Italian leather.  And, somehow, they managed to make them at a price point that doesn’t require you to take out a second mortgage. Witchcraft!

Today, I’m carrying their latest style, the Mini Maestra, but you have to check out their full line-up, including the regular sized Maestra bag.  What I love most about this bag is the absurd amount of organization and the versatility of design.  Both bags have a whopping seven interior pockets, which make staying organized a breeze (even for me, which is saying something…) and both bags can be carried THREE different ways.  The adjustable, detachable strap allows the bag to be worn as a crossbody bag, a backpack (!!!) or a top-handle satchel.  GENIUS.

I opted for the Mini Maestra because I often just bring my iPad to and from work and meetings—and, of course, the bag not only has an interior pocket that fits my iPad, but the pocket is actually padded and specifically designed to house and protect tablets.  If you’re looking for a bag with enough room for a full-sized laptop, the larger Maestra is the way to go—its large padded pocket can house a 13″ laptop.  Whatever size you choose, rest-assured no detail has been overlooked. Every inch of this thing from the pale blue micro-suede interior to the gold feet on the bottom of the bag (so the leather doesn’t scratch when you set it down) to the minimalistic branding on the side gusset is just perfect.

Not only is this beauty perfect for work or play, but the pockets and versatility make it amazing for traveling as well.  I’m a big fan of this marine blue hue which is perfect for fall, but you have to check out their full range of colors.  We’re talking ice blue, blush pink, forest green, coral, tangerine, cream, black, you name it.  And best of all, the bag’s quality is absolutely on par with other designer handbags I own (Senreve makes all of their bags in Italy with genuine Italian leather), but it’s a fraction of the price.

So there you have it:  A handbag that’s on trend, beautiful, versatile and (plot twist!) functional, all at a price point that doesn’t give me acid reflux.  What a time to be alive.

Today I’m thrilled to kick off the Fall/Winter edition of my Trend Memo series!  For the next two weeks, I’ll be taking you through the top ten fashion trends to know for fall and winter, with tips on how to incorporate each trend into your work wardrobe, your play wardrobe and everything in between.  I’m excited to kick things off today with one of my very favorite trends of the season—power dressing!

In case this magenta pants suit didn’t make it clear, power dressing this season is all about being BOLD.  The trend isn’t about your run-of-the-mill corporate attire, but instead, it’s about reinventing traditional suiting with bold hues and fashion-forward detailing. We’re talking bright colors, feminine prints, deconstruction of traditional silhouettes, and even the incorporation of other trendy elements like fur and velvet.  Between the bright color, bold geometric buttons and dramatic split cuffs of my suit today, you can see the many ways in which designers are not just creatively re-thinking office attire this season but artfully addressing what it means to be a powerful woman today.

It’s important to note that this season, power dressing isn’t only for work.  In fact, just yesterday I wore this blazer with jean shorts for Sunday brunch with girlfriends.  Similarly, a sleek black blazer with gold buttons (like this beauty) is a great staple piece to have on hand for fall nights when you’re headed to dinner or drinks and need something to layer over a little black dress.  But whether you’re a workaholic or a lady of leisure, check out my favorite finds below for sporting this trend in or out of the office…

Day two of the Fall/Winter Trend Memo is all about the elevated, luxurious leisurewear that’s been dominating the fashion scene.  Athletic-inspired designs have been hitting runways like crazy for the past few years, and this season, designers were doubling down on the trend.

This season’s twist on the ongoing athletic-inspired trend is the added element of luxury—think more formal fabrics and luxe details—making athleisure revamped, re-imagined, and even better than ever.  And I mean, a trend that lets me wear stunners like these on the daily?  Not mad about it.  I’m also not mad about the fact that this trend allows me to go from a Netflix binge sesh to streetstyle chic simply by sliding on a pair of pumps.

WEAR TO WORK

  • Who said side striped pants can’t make a cameo at the office?!  The entire Banana Republic x Olivia Palermo collection is FIRE, but this lace-up side-stripe pant and this tuxedo stripe trouser are two of my favorites.
  • As you’ve seen me style many times, jogger-style dress pants look great with classic pumps for a day at the office (plus these are under $100!)
  • Thanks to this season’s luxurious twist on athleisure, elevated bombers now fall under office-appropos.  This velvet number from J. Crew would be killer with a satin cami and trousers.
  • Athletic-inspiration isn’t only showing up in literal ways (track pants, side stripe trousers, etc.) but also as a more abstract interpretation, such as the line of a jacket or the stripe of a sweater.

For day three of the Fall/Winter Trend Memo series, it’s all about the color that’s already been dubbed the breakout star of the season—RED.  Today we’re diving into why this vibrant hue is one of the biggest trends for fall and winter, how you can wear it to work and play, and where to shop all things radiant red.

But first!  As you’re shopping for your fall wardrobe, I want to quickly mention that Shopbop just started their Event of the Season Sale which is preeeetty epic.  With code EOTS17, you’ll receive 20% off orders under $500, or 25% off orders of $500 or more.  It’s only running through Friday so go get ’em, tiger.

As you can probably already tell from Day 1 and Day 2 of the Trend Memo series, this season is not for wallflowers.  However, if you’re not quite ready for a full head-to-toe red ensemble, rest assured, the trend can easily be incorporated into your wardrobe with just a simple accessory or even a classic red lip.  There’s virtually no way to mess up.  From monochromatic pairings to cherry power suits to bold gowns or vibrant statement accessories, the statement red trend is in it to win it.

NYC fashion blogger wearing statement red embroidered Sachin and Babi off shoulder gown black tie wedding in France

I wore this embroidered red Sachin & Babi gown to my friend’s wedding in France this summer and aside from my own wedding, it’s easily one of my favorite dresses that I’ve ever worn.  I’ve been meaning to share it here on the blog since our trip, and knew it would be perfect to showcase the biggest color trend of the fall season, as well as give a virtual fistbump to a trend we discussed last spring that’s still going strong: all things embroidered!

NYC fashion blogger wearing statement red embroidered Sachin and Babi off shoulder gown black tie wedding in France

As a quick aside, you’ll see in the background of many of these photos the stunning Chateau de Bourron where Rich and I stayed during the wedding weekend in France.  As the photos suggest, it is a magnificent 17th century chateau (complete with a moat) that’s now been converted into a luxury bed and breakfast.  If you are ever looking for a wonderful weekend trip from Paris, I can’t recommend Chateau de Bourron highly enough.  It’s just a few minutes away from Fontainebleau which has all the charm and history of Versailles but a fraction of the crowds!

NYC fashion blogger wearing statement red embroidered Sachin and Babi off shoulder gown black tie wedding in France

There’s nothing more fun than a bold red for a night out or a fancy formal occasion (especially upcoming holiday parties!), but you can also plan on seeing me sporting red shoes, red bags, red lips and even bright red power suits this fall.  Below, you can read up on how to incorporate the red trend into your work wardrobe, your out-of-office wardrobe, and everywhere in between.  Moral of the story: red is the new black so get on board!

WEAR TO WORK

  • If this classic J. Crew tie-neck dress (which also comes in navy) isn’t the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen then I don’t know what is.  It’s on sale, under $200 and sizing comes in petite, tall and regular sizing. Sooooo yeah, I’m buying it.
  • I get it, head-to-toe red can be tough to pull off in some workplaces so you can start with a classic pair of red bottoms like these classic Max Mara pants (and/or the matching suit jacket) which can be paired beautifully with a classic white blouse.  If you’re just starting out and looking for an affordable option, check out this Vince Camuto pair for only $54!  I’m also eyeing these Derek Lam pants with tuxedo piping detail…
  • Block heels are kind of a big deal these days, and these pumps add the perfect pop of color to any fall or winter look.
  • This stunning red blouse would look amazing with a classic black pencil skirt for a perfect everyday office look.  Also check out this tie-neck top!
  • If you’re looking for classy wear-to-work dresses that never go out of style, look no further than this Black Halo sheath.
  • Dying over this longline double-breasted blazer (that’s under $100!).  Wear it with jeans, dress pants or even layered over a sheath dress.
  • In case you’re looking to rock a full bright red power suit, check out this blazer and  the coordinating pants.  You know they’re in my shopping cart.

  • I would be remiss if I didn’t touch upon on the sock bootie trend which streetstyle stars are rocking in vibrant red hues left, right and center.  I’m obsessed with this Stuart Weitzman pair, and also love affordable options here (patent is HUGE this season) and here.
  • Hello, let me introduce you to the sweater that I will be living in all fall and winter.
  • This sucker is perfect for fall weddings and will be hitting the holiday party circuit HARD.
  • I’m in love with this mock choker blouse, which comes in four other perfect colors.

Whether it’s a glen plaid, a prince of wales check, or a 70s-style tartan, these classic menswear prints are having their day in the sun once again, and if you ask me, it’s about dang time.  My 80s-inspired look today was one of my favorites of fashion week, and let me tell you, cropped blazers like this Sara Battaglia number are not only back with a vengeance, but when paired with anything high-waisted, the boxy line of the cropped jacket makes your waistline look teeny tiny.  Take THAT giant lunchtime burrito.

CORDUROY BLAZER: Veronica Beard  |  SHORT SLEEVE T-SHIRT: J Brand  |  CHECKED MINI SKIRT: Maje  | LEOPARD PRINT PUMPS: Sam Edelman (sold out, similar HERE)

PSA: The crazy Shopbop Event of the Season Sale ends tonight at midnight!  Check out my sale picks here and be sure to use code EOTS17 for 20-25% off everything!!

Day 5 of the Fall/Winter Trend Memo is another undeniable superstar as well as a beloved throwback: CORDUROY!  Allow me to re-introduce you to this old friend whose versatility will take you from workweek to weekend and then some.  Don’t forget to check out my favorite corduroy picks of the season at the bottom of this post!

Yesterday we talked check prints, and given their ubiquity this season, it’s no surprise that a little check action snuck into today’s look as well.  But move over checks, today is all about the cozy, ribbed deliciousness that is corduroy which conjures up memories of my grandfather, pre-kindergarten story time and the Brady Bunch all in equal, confusing measure.  After ghosting us for several years, velvet’s buttoned-up prudish cousin is back and bigger than ever, and I’m fully on board.

The classic corduroy blazer I’m wearing today is the perfect example of a super versatile staple piece that you’ll wear over and over (and over) again all season long.  The suede elbow patches and leather buttons give the blazer a cool vintage, professorial vibe that I’m all about, and it’s easily dressed up for work with a pencil skirt or dressed down for Sunday brunch with straight-leg jeans and your favorite loafers.

And speaking of footwear, these leopard print pumps are old favorites, but it’s important to note that the leopard trend is YUUUUUGE this fall.  While I won’t be dedicating an entire day to this favorite print during the series, it definitely deserves a major shout out!

Top of my wishlist are these Marc Jacobs corduroy trousers (Santa? Are you there? Is it too soon?), but coats, blazers (in vibrant surprising hues no less!), pants, even dresses are repping the ridged delight at virtually every retailer under the sun. and in classic vintage style, autumnal colors reign supreme.  It’s safe to say that jackets and trousers are the season’s obvious go-to’s when it comes to corduroy, but if you’re looking to ease into things, try a corduroy accessory like this cute ball cap!

In the sea of bright colors and statement dressing, corduroy is one classic, soothing influence this season.   So whether you’re a comfy corduroy jeans kind of gal or want to make a statement with a head-to-toe ensemble, there’s a cord for every situation…

WEAR TO WORK

  • This season, trade in your corporate uniform for tailored corduroy jackets, blazers and pants. Pro tip: it’s best to stick with defined silhouettes.
  • Check out this classic blazer that’s as timeless as it is affordable and I simply. must. have. it.  If you’ve glommed onto this season’s yellow trend, then this double-breasted beauty from Banana is also not one to miss.
  • Totally in love with this wide-leg trouser, which I think is worth the investment but here’s a similar option at a quarter of the price for all of my ballers on a budget!
  • I’m pretty much dying over this dress and this dress, but I’m also really digging this beauty coming in under $200.

BRB, OUT OF OFFICE

  • You can never go wrong with a classic corduroy jacket and this blush beauty or this cream version (which is under $100!) paired with jeans makes for the perfect fall Saturday ensemble.
  • How cool are these front-zip trousers?!
  • I love the bright huge and adorable back detailing of this peplum top.  Who knew corduroy could be so festive?
  • Next stop: moto zip skirt.  This bad boy is perfect for layering with tights once the temperature drops.
  • I will be wearing this corduroy baseball cap all weekend, every weekend.  No bad hair days this fall.
  • Last but certainly not least, I’m weirdly into this faux shearling studded corduroy jacket.  Thoughts?

For Day 6 of the Fall/Winter Trend Memo, we’re talking all things floral.  Amidst power statements, subdued checks and nostalgic cords, we can all agree there’s room for a little romance, so pour a glass of vino (or add a little Bailey’s to your coffee?), crank up the Marvin Gaye and let’s get this floral party on.   Today we’re breaking down how this season is changing the floral game, how to take the print from work to play, and where to score my very favorite floral finds.

NYC fashion blogger Mary Orton in black Anthropologie embroidered fit and flare floral midi dress black Sam Edelman ankle strap pumps black M2Malletier mini leather shoulder bag black cat eye sunglasses and a black leather Gucci waist belt

First things first: forget about light pastels and summertime vibes, ’cause this season’s florals are rich and moody.  How dreamy is this embroidered frock from Anthropologie?  I’m in full swoon thanks to the sheer neckline, cap sleeves and fit-and-flare midi silhouette, and the black backdrop means that adding in black tights as temperatures drop will be a cinch.  I can even see a festive pump and earring taking this beauty right through the holiday party circuit.

Contrary to popular belief, you do NOT have to identify as a “girly girl” to rock this trend.  Take it from someone who is generally not a floral person, this season’s florals are different.  If you’re worried about the trend turning too saccharine, pair a romantic floral with a black leather moto jacket and boots for a chic cool-girl look.  If you’re looking for minimal effort, just add an embroidered belt or a silk scarf to any basic outfit and call it a day.

  • How cool is this navy blazer and the coordinating trousers?
  • This patterned silk dress is a beauty fall and winter, but is definitely a year-round staple piece.
  • These elegant side stripe trousers  are SO COOL.  Business in the front, party on the… side?
  • This floral blazer is one of my favorite finds.  Add in a monochromatic ivory ensemble underneath and you’ve got yourself a killer office look.
  • If your office airs on the conservative side, this jacquard shift dress is STUNNING.

  • Embroidered floral is #FIRE, and I just received this sweater in the mail after purchasing last week.  HOW GOOD IS IT??
  • How gorg are these embroidered jeans?!  If trousers are more your style, it doesn’t get better than this pair!
  • Floral dresses no doubt reign supreme, and I can’t decide between this cold-shoulder beauty and this lace-trimmed maxi (this color palette is what autumnal dreams are made of…)
  • Velvet is HUGE this season, and this velvet car coat is the perfect luxe layer for the finicky temperatures of fall. (Added bonus for the whole 2 birds trends, 1 stone thing…)
  • Loving everything about this super affordable midi dress (under $50!).
  • Pair this adorable mini skirt with tights, boots, and a chunky knit and you’ve got the perfect fall weekend look.

TURTLENECK STRIPED SWEATER: Maggie Marilyn (affordable alternative HERE!) |  STIRRUP SKI PANTS: 3.1 Phillip Lim (almost identical version under $50 HERE!)  |  SLIDE PUMP: Louise et Cie  |  LEATHER SHOULDER BAG: Nico Giani  |  CAT EYE SUNGLASSES: BP. (sold out, similar HERE and HERE)  |  DISC EARRINGS: Madewell (sold out in silver, similar HERE)

Moving right along to Day 7 of our Fall/Winter Trend Memo, today’s spotlight is on cozy knits, stirrup pants and all things aprés ski.  No doubt designers drew heavy inspiration from the slopes this season (as evidenced by Fendi, Louis Vuitton, Loewe, and Sonia Rykiel), but you certainly don’t have to be on holiday in Aspen to jump in the game.  Aprés ski style has officially exited the lodge and headed to the streets, so read on for tips on taking this trend from desk to drinks, and don’t forget to check out my favorite picks at the bottom of this post!

If you haven’t gotten the memo, consider this fair warning: stirrup pants are back and bigger than ever and I am all in on the trend.  Honestly, if I could get any fonder of these Phillip Lim stirrup pants it would be detrimental to my health (pleats, pinstripes, AND stirrups?!  Just stop it.).  Of course, the stirrup pant is inspired by sportswear originally developed for skiing (and horseback riding) and has now been resurrected from the 80s versions (which were resurrected from the 60s, which were resurrected from the 20s…), but whether you’re hitting the slopes, sipping hot toddies by the fire, or just getting ready for Tuesday morning at the office, it’s safe to say that stirrups are a solid investment this season.  Be sure to strap ’em outside of your heels to give these stunners the attention they deserve.

FYI, I found these stirrups which are super similar to the ones I’m wearing today for under $50!

Ski-inspired knits crafted in bold colors and patterns will also be big hitters this season, but also keep an eye out for more refined and updated aprés ski styles that may whisper, not shout.  As seen in today’s look, aprés ski style is a perfect complement to another craze of the season, luxe leisure (see Day 2 of this series if you missed it!).  The varsity-inspired turtleneck (shout out to Day 3, Statement Red!) I’m wearing today is equal parts comfy, cool and of-the-moment.  The placement of the white stripes is killer, but the asymmetrical ruffle?  I’m dead.

And since we’re rolling with the statement red trend, how about this Nico Giani bag?! I’m also a big fan of this red bag under $100.

My denial aside, cooling temps are indicating that winter IS in fact coming [insert Jon Snow joke here] and judging by the fact that ski-inspired knits, stirrup pants, and coats made all sorts of cameos on the FW17 runways, I’m wondering if this one’s going to be a bit colder than usual…

WEAR TO WORK

  • Incorporating ski-inspired dressing into your work wardrobe is 1000% easier than it sounds.  Pair a classic ivory knit turtleneck with these amazing plaid stirrup pants and you’re ready for Monday morning at the office.
  • This perfect turtleneck sweater dress is just the kind of thing I live in all winter—in or out of the office.  I’m also dying over this one.
  • Love the side stripe on these Helmut Lang stirrups which are currently on killer sale.
  • How pretty is this ruffle turtleneck that comes in plum, black and grey?!
  • The classic cut and double-breasted detailing of this faux-fur trimmed quilted jacket make it the perfect wear-everywhere coat that can be dressed up with workwear or dressed down with jeans on the weekends.

BRB, OUT OF OFFICE

  • How gorgeous and COMFY does this beautiful hand-knit mosaic cardigan look?!  FULL. SWOON.
  • You may remember me wearing a dress almost identical to this one last year during my Fall 30 Dresses series.  I remember it sold out in about two seconds, so hop-to!
  • Love this striped sweater! Spoiler alert: It’s under $70!
  • Whether you’re hitting the slopes or just prepping for snowy days, this down coat will be your BFF.  Look at that lining! SO cozy!
  • This cut-out burgundy sweater is absolutely perfect for a night out (and it’s under $40…)!

Day 8 of the Fall/Winter Trend Memo Series is dedicated to (arguably) my all-time favorite color spectrum—jewel tones.  I’m not just on board with this Fall trend, I’m driving this damn train.  What’s not to love about hues that conjure the likes of emeralds, sapphires, rubies, and gold (a.k.a. subliminal gift messaging to your significant other), amiright?  This season’s majestic shades have popped up everywhere, in every way so today I’m breaking down these semi-precious tones from outerwear to accessories and everything in between.

NYC fashion blogger Mary Orton emerald cable knit Margiela sweater Theory ruched satin midi skirt Stuart Weitzman boots multi Jewel Toned Tory Burch handbag

There’s no wrong way to rock the jewel tone trend, but as evidenced today, I decided to bathe in one of the biggest jewel tones of the season—emerald green.  To up the ante when working with a monochromatic look, mix textures like satin, fur and chunky knits to add interest. This satin Theory skirt feels just as dreamy as it looks… and check out the ruching, which hides the curly fries you ordered at lunch and makes for an uber-flattering silhouette.  Piggybacking off of yesterday’s trend (holla back Aprés Ski), this MM6 cable-knit turtleneck (great affordable dupe here!) is a favorite that I already know I’ll be sporting all winter long.  Glam it up like I’ve done today or dress it down á la aprés-ski style with a pair of stirrup pants or a favorite pair of jeans.

NYC fashion blogger Mary Orton emerald cable knit Margiela sweater Theory ruched satin midi skirt Stuart Weitzman boots multi Jewel Toned Tory Burch handbag

This delicious green faux fur coat from Anthropologie definitely amps up the look even more, and is another piece that looks just as fab dressed down.  We know fur has been trending for, well basically ever, but as it continues its ascent this season, be on the lookout for colorful fluff.  From full-length faux fur coats to fur-trimmed anything, rich, vibrant shades reign supreme.

If you aren’t ready to “rock” head-to-toe jewel tones, you can subtly royal out with accessories like these shoes (which I have in back and white!) or this beautiful bag.   I’m OBSESSING over these fur-trimmed loafers which would elevate an otherwise-classic look with ease.

NYC fashion blogger Mary Orton emerald cable knit Margiela sweater Theory ruched satin midi skirt Stuart Weitzman boots multi Jewel Toned Tory Burch handbag

Crowning today’s jewel tone fest is the dreamiest Tory Burch bag I’ve seen in a long time.  I audibly gasped when I spotted it.  You can plan on seeing this beauty make a lot of appearances around here…

NYC fashion blogger Mary Orton emerald cable knit Margiela sweater Theory ruched satin midi skirt Stuart Weitzman boots multi Jewel Toned Tory Burch handbag

And last but certainly not least, I give you these magnificent Stuart Weitzman sock boots (love the other color options too!).  Of course, no one makes a quality boot quite like Stuart Weitzman, but if you’re looking for a more budget-friendly option, check out these beauties.  However you swing it, just make sure some version makes its way into your closet because the sock boot is unquestionably the biggest fall shoe trend this season.

  • This beautiful matte satin long-sleeve wrap dress would be perfect for any workplace (I’m forever a sucker for that red!).
  • This stunning blouse would be amazing over a tapered ankle-length trouser for the office, and easily dressed up for a night out as well.  Love the wrist detail!

  • If this super fun pleated skirt doesn’t make you happy, then I don’t know what will.  It comes in three beautiful shades and I’m trying to rationalize buying them all…
  • How perfect is this drop shoulder jacket?! It’s also under $200…
  • I’m weirdly into this sequined tie midi skirt.  Is anybody with me?!
  • If you’ve been waiting all summer for sweater season, check out this cozy knit (that’s under $100!) and this plum wrap number (that’s under $50!).

  • This checked shirt dress is great for days when you’re running late to brunch after a slightly-later-than-planned night out, while this Lovers + Friends dress is the perfect option for said night out.  (This has never happened to me but, like, I can imagine.)
  • These cuffed trousers are insanely cool, and there’s a matching cardigan!
  • This incredibly soft ruffled top is just the sort of thing I live in all season long, apple-picking excursion or not.  I also love this oversized plaid boyfriend shirt as well.
  • All my pink lovers, look no further than this perfect blush jacket. Also, you don’t want to miss this pink DVF mini that’s on SALE!
  • Last but not least, you can plan on seeing plaid mini skirts EVERYWHERE this season, and I just purchased this one.

Is it too soon?), but coats, blazers (in vibrant surprising hues no less!), pants, even dresses are repping the ridged delight at virtually every retailer under the sun, and in classic vintage style, autumnal colors reign supreme.

WEAR TO WORK
