Turtleneck Dress for Conservative OfficeBlack and White Striped DressWomens Office Clothing Black Dress and Pumps for Work Work Hairstyle for Women Black and White Striped Dress DRESS: C/MEO Collective  |  SHOES: Saint Laurent (similar here & here)  |  CUFF: Chico’s (similar here)

I’ve lived in San Francisco for a little over six months now, and man does this place toy with my emotions weather-wise.  I know.  It’s Monday morning, and we’re talking about the weather.  Chances are most of you just endured an elevator ride with awkward coworkers in which the weather was already painfully and comprehensively examined.  I used to try to time myself to see how long a weather-exclusive conversation could be held while trapped in the confines of the metal box that took me from the first to the 27th floor.  I don’t want to brag, by my record was nine minutes.  So there’s that.  But I digress…

I’m getting tuned up to the idea that San Francisco summers are riddled with lots of overcast, cold-ish (let’s be real it doesn’t drop below 60º) days.  The psychological warfare waged by the calendar saying “July” and my weather app saying “62º” is no joke.  And so, with great joy, I give you the sleeveless turtleneck dress.

I’m a sucker for graphic black and white, and this striped turtleneck dress is perfect for those overcast summer days when you want something a little more cozy, but still summery (it’s July for crying out loud!) and dressy enough to wear to the office.

A word to the wise: If you’re buying this dress for a professional setting, I’d advise ordering one size larger than your normal size.  The dress is cut snug, which is perfect if you’re interested in wearing it for extracurricular activities.  In the workplace, however, it will likely be more comfortable (and appropriate) with a bit of give.

In addition to the raging bandana/neckerchief trend, I’m a huge fan of the burgeoning skinny silk scarf trend.  I’m the lucky beneficiary of some great vintage skinny silk scarves and bow ties of my parents from the seventies and eighties and love wearing them with a crisp button front shirt.  I wore another one in a similar way at Fashion Week last September (here) and am excited that the look is slowly but surely getting a bit more mainstream.  Vintage shops usually have giant bins of these things, so keep an eye out next time you’re perusing.  Speaking of perusing, I just updated my Shop page with some new favorites and oh, by the way, have you checked out the. best. sale. of the year yet??  You’ve got work to do.

I landed in Montréal yesterday for my bachelorette party this weekend and thought I’d share with you a little something I did for my bridesmaids before the trip.  I wanted to thank each of them for being a bridesmaid (muah ha ha as if they had a choice) and also send a little something French-themed for our journey to Montréal…

DRESS: Erin Fetherston (love the black version here and similar style in multiple colors here)  |  SHOES: Jimmy Choo (similar here)  |  BRACELET: c/o Monica Vinader  |  Gift Boxes: c/o BoxFox

In the process of gathering ideas for french-themed gift items to send to my favorite ladies, I serendipitously stumbled upon BoxFox—the most adorable company that makes it all super easy.  They have a great selection of themed boxes that are already put together, but you can also build your own box that’s tailored to your occasion or recipient.  Their huge assortment of gifts actually included a bunch of the above cute french-themed items that were perfect for us.  Both the quality of the gifts and the adorable packaging blew me away.  I truly can’t recommend BoxFox highly enough.

The ooonly downside is that their “Hangover Kit” didn’t include anything for tattoo removal.  Here’s hoping I don’t wake up with any Mike Tyson-esque ink on my face. Wish me luck.

Fringe. Fringe. Fringe.  Its ubiquity this season is only surpassed by its sheer. splendor.  In other words, I’m a fan.

However, it isn’t a particularly work-friendly accoutrement.  Previously, I incorporated the trend with a fringed silk blouse in this post, but struggled to find much else that met the office-appropriate mark.  Then, the clouds parted and this magnificent blazer happened.  I wore it today with a light khaki pencil skirt and ivory camisole to let the jacket do the talking, but I could also see it paired really well with black, blush, white or even grey—whew options!

Also, if you’re as big a fan of this striped jacquard, then you may want to check out the mini skirt version here.  Not so much an option for work, but very much an option for summer nights and weekends, with the legs (no pun intended) to take you well into the fall.

P.S. The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is now open to non-cardholders!  If you haven’t checked it out, you can peruse my sale picks here!

DRESS: Tularosa  |  SHOES: c/o White House Black Market (similar here and here)  |  CLUTCH: J. Crew (very similar here)  |  BRACELET: Kate Spade  |  LIPS: Nars

Despite the office-friendly cut of this dress, I reserved it for casual Friday due to the informal linen and embroidery down the front.  If you work in a casual office, this might be right on the money for you.  So light and comfy, this dress is a dream on hot sticky days when wearing anything more substantial than a nightgown seems in violation of the Geneva Conventions.

If you missed my post last week, you have to check out the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale that’s going on.  It is (without exaggeration) the very best sale of the year, so don’t miss out.  In addition to last week’s sale picks post, I just updated my Shop page again with some more CRAZY good finds that I discovered this week in the sale.  You can check it out here.  Happy shopping and Happy Friday!!

P.S. Apologies for the sparse posting this week.  I’m down to the final weeks of wedding planning and can’t believe how much more there is to do before the big day in less than a month. AGH!!

DRESS: Kate Spade (currently more than 60% off and available in every size!) |  PUMPS: SJP Collection (lower heel version here)  |  SNEAKERS: Adidas (also here)  |  SUNGLASSES: Nina Ricci (very similar here 30% off!)  |  LIP: Nars

I love the versatility of this dress.  With a pair of pumps it’s perfect for the office, with sneaks it takes on a sporty vibe perfect for running errands on the weekends.  In either scenario, the knit fabric is ultra comfy so it’s ready for anything.

If these black and white horizontal stripes scare you, check out this similar dress and this similar dress or some of my other stripey favorites below.  Many of them are currently on sale right now during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, so check them out before the sale ends in one week from today!  Also, if you haven’t perused it yet, check out my recently updated shop page here for more crazy good picks from the sale.  If you’re new here and aren’t familiar with this epic sale of all sales, it’s actually all fall fashion—most of which isn’t even available yet at other retailers—that’s on sale now before going back to full price after August 3rd.  It might seem premature to be thinking about fall, but as someone who absolutely excels in the art of procrastination, even I am eager to jump the gun for these prices.  Come September when these boots are back to full price, I can guarantee you’ll be high-fiving yourself.

This dress, called the “Colette” dress, is one of my very favorites—as evidenced by this being the second version of the frock that I’ve worn in two weeks.  Though the fabric is dramatically different, the style is the same as the white and blue printed version in this recent post.  The fact that “Colette” happens to also be one of my favorite names, and the name of my grandmother, is just icing on the cake.

I’ve posted some of my favorite black shirt dresses before, and have mentioned how much I adore them.  Apologies for repeating myself, but today I have to do it again.  They’re so incredibly versatile, and one of the easiest pieces to take seamlessly from desk to drinks.  I’ve included several more favorites in the widget above.

Okay, enough about shirtdresses.  It’s time to get serious.  The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale ends on SUNDAY.  In case you’ve missed recent posts (or live under a rock) this is without question the very best sale of the year, bar none.  All new fall stuff, all on sale.  No spring and summer dregs here.  If you’ve been putting it off and/or are intimidated by where to start, I’ve tried to make it easy for you.  Below I’ve categorized some of my favorite finds, and I’ve also added many more favorites to my SHOP page, so buckle down and get after it…

When aiming to err on the conservative  side of the workwear spectrum, I’m a sucker for pieces that fit the “classic” stylistic bill, but still manage to incorporate some contemporary flair.  Exhibit A: these Burberry pieces today.  The pants have a classic mid-rise, pintucked front and tapered leg, but the tone-on-tone textured jacquard fabric makes them more than just another pair of black dress pants for the office.  The blouse achieves a similar feat with the polka dot pattern, pleated front and pearl buttons.  Of course, it doesn’t get much more classic than a Burberry scarf, but the abstract print in super wearable neutral hues brings it into the “now.”  All three pieces can keep things squarely in the business formal camp, but still make you feel like you haven’t completely abandoned your sartorial soul in the workplace.  Huge wins in my book.

A great get-up for casual friday at the office before hitting the road for a weekend away, this ultra comfy jumpsuit and tote bag have been favorites for short trips throughout the summer.  Most recently, this amazing brightly embroidered tote bag made the journey with me to Montreal for my bachelorette party and will be coming along again on our honeymoon after the wedding.  As for the jumpsuit, it’s proven to be one of my most versatile summer staples.  I’ve worn it casually during the day and also dressed it up for wedding-related festivities at night.  Cheers to socially acceptable adult onesies.

With just one week left until the wedding, I apologize in advance for the slightly more sparse posting during our wedding week and honeymoon.  We have a few days full of last minute to-do’s and then the wedding celebrations commence!  Then, Rich and I will be leaving shortly thereafter for our honeymoon.  I’ll be sharing lots of peeks at our wedding and honeymoon on instagram, so be sure follow keep up with me there!

Huge thanks to all of you for your good wishes and sweet messages for our wedding this past weekend.  It was a truly unforgettable day, certainly surpassing our wildest expectations.  Rich and I are indescribably happy, and were immeasurably blessed by the outpouring of love from the friends and family who celebrated with us in Milwaukee, and also from so many of you who have sent such beautiful messages of congratulations and good wishes.  I can’t wait to get pictures back from our wedding weekend so I can share all of the details with you here!

We jet off for our honeymoon today, and I’ll be sharing lots of snaps from our travels on instagram, so stay in touch there : )  In the meantime, I have lots of outfits that I’ll be sharing here, including this look from last week when I was running around beautiful Milwaukee running last minute wedding errands.  The blue maxi dress pictured today is one of my absolute favorites, and since I’m such a maxi dress hoarder, I thought I’d share a few more that I’m coveting below…

CULOTTES:  Premonition (similar here)  |  CROP TOP: American Apparel (old but similar here & here)  |  BLAZER: Theory  |  MULES: Coach  |  SUNGLASSES: Stella Mccartney

Okay, so full disclosure on this one:  When getting dressed on the morning that these photos were taken, I was under the impression that the above depicted coral culottes and crop top did, in fact, meet sans stomach exposure.  Funny how misleading garments can be when you’re standing still in front of a mirror during the wee morning hours.  Blame it on the fatigue and lack of caffeine (sound familiar?), but after these photos were snapped and I was a few minutes into my work day—which required some actual movement—I realized that the aforementioned top and culotte did not, in fact, fully conceal everything that a top and culotte should during one’s workday.  Instead of scrapping these photos, I thought I’d still share them because (a) I still like the outfit, and (b) this is likely a situation with which many of you can relate—showing up to the office looking a bit different than you might’ve originally planned.  Le sigh.

Obviously the lesson here is that crop tops must be treated with the utmost care when one is headed to a professional setting, AND never trust your sleep and caffeine-deprived self when taking early morning fashion risks.  Luckily, upon realizing that my midriff was exposed when not completely stationary in front of a mirror, I was able to switch into another more work-friendly top before any major damage to my professional reputation had been made.

However, shortly thereafter, I got my sandal stuck in an escalator, causing an alarm to sound in the lobby of a large office building while several potential business partners looked on.  I can’t, with confidence, say that my reputation came out of that scenario similarly unscathed.  It just wasn’t my day.

Today I thought I’d share a few snaps recently shared on Instagram from Part I of our honeymoon at the Four Seasons Seychelles.  As the images suggest, words fail miserably in conveying the experience we’ve had in this magical paradise.  If you’re planning a honeymoon in the coming months, I can’t fathom a more idyllic destination.  I’m looking forward to sharing more details of our time here in the weeks to come.  In the meantime, we have a few more days on Mahé, then are changing locations to another exciting destination, so be sure to follow along! Any guesses?!

While you probably won’t be sporting a denim mini in the office anytime soon, I thought I’d share these favorites that I’ve brought on our honeymoon.

Perfect for layering over beachwear, this sweater could also work beautifully with high-waisted trousers (like these) or a pencil skirt (like this one).

Though not quite versatile enough to make the grade at the office, this denim mini has definitely gone the distance for me during the summer months.  I wore it here while walking the streets of Montreal during my bachelorette weekend, but seem to constantly be wearing it everywhere — brunch, dinner, the beach, you name it.

Rich and I leave the Seychelles today for Part II of our honeymoon in South Africa.  I can’t wait to share lots of wedding and honeymoon details here when we get back! In the meantime, stay in touch on instagram for some sneak peeks of what we’re up to.  Happy Friday!
